Exciting news!!! JLA is celebrating the release of her new book, Frigid with a yummy book trailer! I can't wait to get my hands on her latest work! JLA never disappoints!!

For twenty-one-year-old Sydney, being in love with Kyler isn’t anything new. They’d been best friends ever since he pushed her down on the playground and she made him eat a mud pie. Somewhere over the years, she fell for him and fell hard. The
big problem with that? Kyler puts the ‘man’ in man-whore. He’s never stayed with a girl longer than a few nights, and with it being their last year in college, Syd doesn’t want to risk their friendship by declaring her love.

Kyler has always put Syd on a pedestal that was too high for him to reach. To him, she’s perfect and she’s everything. But the feelings he has for her, he’s always hidden away or focused on any other female. After all, Kyler will always be the poor boy from the wrong side of tracks, and Syd will always be the one girl he can never have.

But when they’re stranded together at a posh ski resort due to a massive Nor’easter, there’s nothing stopping their red-hot feelings for each other from coming to the surface. Can their friendship survive the attraction? Better yet, can they survive at all? Because as the snow falls, someone is stalking them, and this ski trip may be a life-changer in more ways than one.

Alpha Girl by Kate Bloomfield Review

Wednesday, May 1, 2013

People who know me personally are aware of the fact that I don't care for the whole werewolf genre. Twilight killed it for me, in fact the only werewolf thing I'm obsessed with is Teen Wolf. (OMG SCOTT!)

So I took a chance on this novella, hoping to have that changed and I was pleasantly surprised! I found the whole student teacher thing to be slightly off putting but after I found out the reasons behind their attraction, it was ok.

Ah, but all this forbidden love...it's just satisfying! A guilty pleasure for sure!

Let's talk about characters...

Rose. She's not an annoying seventeen year old. She's pretty mature for her age and she has quite a mouth on her. I like it when teenage characters curse, because it's REALISTIC. I like intelligent teen characters also because it's also REALISTIC. We've got to stop underestimating our youth and see them for the budding adults they are. Rose is trying to tell everyone that she knows what she wants and as usual parents and the rest of the adults are trying to do what's best for her not realizing that she's now old enough to know exactly what that is. In this case, Mr.Stone.

Tom Stone. He's hot. I mean who doesn't love a sexy English teacher? If my English teachers were that smokin' in high school, I'd have trouble resisting also. He's intelligent and sees Rose as a person not a dog or weirdo like everyone else. He values her opinions and is challenged by her.
The one thing I'm going to say is that in terms of character maturity, Rose seems wise beyond her years and at times Tom seems like he's only seventeen. I mean, I know we're dealing with the paranormal here but if anyone has read vampire academy (and I can't believe I'm going to reference VA) Dimitri resisted Rose for quite a while and I appreciated that. I know it's COMPLETELY different but so much happens so FAST in this novella. I kept getting the Twilight Instalove vibe and that's a no-no for me. We want our characters to jump off the pages so we gotta make those characters go through leaps and bounds for love. It just feels more satisfying that way. Still, I loved his character and he was very caring towards Rose.

Anyway, it was a good read and I'd recommend it to anyone who was looking for something easy to fall into. This is one of those books that for me, was effortless to read! :)

Shadow Kiss Review

Thursday, April 4, 2013

It's springtime at St. Vladimir's Academy, and Rose Hathaway is this close to graduation. Since making her first Strigoi kills, Rose hasn't been feeling quite right. She's having dark thoughts, behaving erratically, and worst of all... might be seeing ghosts.

As Rose questions her sanity, new complications arise. Lissa has begun experimenting with her magic once more, their enemy Victor Dashkov might be set free, and Rose's forbidden relationship with Dimitri is starting to heat up again. But when a deadly threat no one saw coming changes their entire world, Rose must put her own life on the line - and choose between the two people she loves most.

Oh what can I say about these books? This series isn't THE WORST thing I've read but there's something here that isn't clicking for me. The fact that it took me almost a month and a half to read this ONE book should say something about it's ability to pull me into the story and it's world.

The one thing that saves me is DIMITRI BELIKOV and all his hotness. Yet, even the forbidden love aspect of these books can't pull me in for longer than thirty mins. I'm often thinking about other things or other books I can be reading.

I gave Shadow Kiss three stars. It was MEH just as much as the first two books were. Will I finish the series? Yes. Is it at the top of my to-do list? Heck no.

Synopsis
Some things are worth waiting for…
Traveling thousands of miles from home to enter college is the only way nineteen-year-old Avery Morgansten can escape what happened at the Halloween party five years ago—an event that forever changed her life. All she needs to do is make it to her classes on time, make sure the bracelet on her left wrist stays in place, not draw any attention to herself, and maybe—please God—make a few friends, because surely that would be a nice change of pace. The one thing she didn’t need and never planned on was capturing the attention of the one guy who could shatter the precarious future she’s building for herself.
Some things are worth experiencing…
Cameron Hamilton is six feet and three inches of swoon-worthy hotness, complete with a pair of striking blue eyes and a remarkable ability to make her want things she believed were irrevocably stolen from her. She knows she needs to stay away from him, but Cam is freaking everywhere, with his charm, his witty banter, and that damn dimple that’s just so… so lickable. Getting involved with him is dangerous, but when ignoring the simmering tension that sparks whenever they are around each other becomes impossible, he brings out a side of her she never knew existed.
Some things should never be kept quiet…
But when Avery starts receiving threatening emails and phone calls forcing her to face a past she wants silenced, she’s has no other choice but to acknowledge that someone is refusing to allow her to let go of that night when everything changed. When the devastating truth comes out, will she resurface this time with one less scar? And can Cam be there to help her or will he be dragged down with her?
And some things are worth fighting for…

WAIT FOR YOU is available now!

Harken Review

Saturday, February 2, 2013

Harken (Harken, #1)Harken by Kaleb Nation
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

What I really enjoyed most about this book was the pacing. So much happens in the first chapter alone that I was flipping back trying to grasp it all.

But towards the middle I found myself distracted. I just couldn't get into the story as much as I wanted to. Don't get me wrong, I liked this book but I'm with holding my judgement on the series until I can nab the second book.

Kaleb has a good and original idea, but I didn't care for the characters enough to stay engrossed in that. I forced myself to finish Harken and I found I did enjoy it, but I couldn't shake the feeling that something was missing.

Hopefully the second book blows me out of the water. Still, great effort Kaleb!

Mara Dyer Review

The Unbecoming of Mara DyerThe Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I heart Noah Shaw.

That is all.

Seriously though, this was a different read for me. I'm not used to mysterious plots that I can't figure out in one minute. Mara Dyer keeps me on my toes and I can't for the life of me guess what's going to happen next. It drives me nuts, but so does Noah Shaw. Did I mention Noah Shaw? He's totally one of those book boys that I'm going to gush about for the next ten years. I'm not even sorry.

Easy by Tammara Webber

Rescued by a stranger.
Haunted by a secret
Sometimes, love isn’t easy…

He watched her, but never knew her. Until thanks to a chance encounter, he became her savior…

The attraction between them was undeniable. Yet the past he’d worked so hard to overcome, and the future she’d put so much faith in, threatened to tear them apart.

Only together could they fight the pain and guilt, face the truth—and find the unexpected power of love.

I'm going to be cheesy and use the title to describe this book: it was Easy. It was so effortless to love the story and I was sucked in from the very first chapter. Easy is the story of Jacqueline and Lucas. I enjoyed both of their characters, both facing horrors and dealing with them in their current relationships.   Jacqueline is very independent and headstrong and I enjoyed seeing her overcome the breakup from her long time boyfriend. Lucas seems like this tatted up bad boy but he's sensitive and intelligent. He's also cautious and sensitive.

I was so interested in their lives and this book touched me. I was a big ol' baby by the time I was finished. If you're looking for a book that gives you the warm and fuzzies but also makes you cry buckets...then Easy is the clear choice.

The Goddess Test by Aimee Carter

EVERY GIRL WHO HAS TAKEN THE TEST HAS DIED.

NOW IT'S KATE'S TURN.

It's always been just Kate and her mom--and her mother is dying. Her last wish? To move back to her childhood home. So Kate's going to start at a new school with no friends, no other family and the fear that her mother won't live past the fall.

Then she meets Henry. Dark. Tortured. And mesmerizing. He claims to be Hades, god of the Underworld--and if she accepts his bargain, he'll keep her mother alive while Kate tries to pass seven tests.

Kate is sure he's crazy--until she sees him bring a girl back from the dead. Now saving her mother seems crazily possible. If she suceeds, she'll become Henry's future bride and a goddess.

IF SHE FAILS...

PROS: I liked this book a lot, but I LOVED it towards the end.
Ya'll don't understand. I HEART Greek Mythology and I really enjoyed the twist on the myth of Hades and Persephone. That was one Greek myth that always boggled by mind and it was really nice to see Henry/Hades in an endearing light. Well, sort of endearing...he's still the King of the Underworld.
I also appreciated the lack of insta-love on both sides. Kate has to work for Henry's affections and vice versa...but that doesn't mean I don't want more juicy scenes, Aimee Carter!
I liked the characters for the most part but allow me to elaborate in the cons...

CONS: A little bit slow for me to get into...but worth it in the end. I get it Carter, you want to unfold the plot nice and slow but I was dying for a hint of love or comedy somewhere in the mix.
Speaking of comedy and maybe I've been spoiled by JLA, someone who's authored a greek mythology series, I wanted a bit more of the snarky comments and quips I've grown used to.
The love story while very sweet and endearing, I wanted a little more juice. I'm not talking full on explicit scenes that make you blush...but just a little more. Hopefully in the next books.

I really did enjoy this book a lot though. A nice solid read that I would recommend :)

Deity by Jennifer L. Armentrout Review

Friday, January 4, 2013

Gods this book. THIS BOOK!
I can't even begin to explain just how much I enjoyed this! The pacing, the plot, even the cliffhanger was just beyond words! I promise my review is going to be all over the place!

I loved every second of it, and it was strange because even though this was such an engrossing read...I found myself putting it down just to think about it. That rarely happens for me with YA books but I loved the mystery of it all. I found myself guessing which characters were behind certain events. It reminded me of the feeling I got while reading Harry Potter, at least in the pacing of the story and the mystery of the plot.

Another thing I noticed about the series is the build up of the characters and how much JLA makes you love them even for their faults. Half-blood was created to let the readers love Aiden and Alex. Pure was all Seth. Deity served the purpose of making us squirm over who Alex would really choose but to also help understand her choices.

I'm rabid for the next book, Apollyon which comes out in April 2013 and I don't say this enough but there is a magic to Armentrout's writing and after reading this series...I'm solidified as a fan.

Pure by Jennifer L. Armentrout Review

Ever since I’ve met you, I’ve wanted to break every rule.” Aiden turned away, the muscles in his neck tensing. He sighed. “You’ll become the center of someone’s world one day. And he’ll be the luckiest son of a bitch on this earth" -Aiden St.Delphi
Pure is a wonderful mix of action, comedy, and romance.
If Half-Blood left you yearning for more, Pure, the second novel in the Covenant series sure fills the void. We get to dive deeper into the Hematoi world and see Alex interact with Seth, the Apollyon.  The chemistry between the two and it made for a lot of comedic moments.

Alexandria Andros is one of those characters that you wish you could be because of her strength, tenacity, and spirit. She is a delight to rad and her interactions with Aiden are so heated and passionate. The forbidden love story in this love is tastefully done in a way where it's not annoying at all. I'm totally Team Aiden by the way but in this book I found myself liking Seth too. That's why I love JLA because she has a knack for writing characters that are jerks but have that redeeming quality that makes you want to love them. Pure did not disappoint at all.

Half-Blood by Jennifer L. Armentrout Review

Half-Blood by Jennifer L. Armentrout is the story of Alexandria Andros a.k.a. Alex who is a half-blood who has escaped from the Covenant three years ago with her mother. She returns to find that she must catch up or she will be kicked out of the Covenant and enter into servitude.

Half-Blood was one of those books I avoided for some reason. I had heard that it was very similar to Vampire Academy but being as I haven't read that yet, I figured why not give this a shot. I love Greek Mythology and my prior knowledge helped me guess certain story elements which I found enjoyable.

I also enjoyed this book because who doesn't like kick-ass females like Alex? Who doesn't love super yummy badass guys like Aiden?
You will fall head over heels for the romance in this book. I'm talking about all the deliciousness of forbidden love in all it's glory. Aiden is a Pure and Alex is a Half and it's against the Gods for them to be together.

As much as I did enjoy the characters, the book is not without its flaws. I felt it a little draggy towards the middle but what it lacked in pacing sometimes, it made up in characters. What I appreciate most about JLA's writing is her character development and these guys fly right off the pages.

Honestly, even if Greek Mythology isn't your thing...you should read this just because Aiden St. Delphi is delicious! He's totally making himself comfy on my list of book boyfriends. All in all, this was an enjoyable read.
